Guests from Siberia

Every year, hundreds of these whooper swans pass the winter on the banks of the Kitakami River. Now they start already to return to the North.

Beautiful birds and so welcomed back in Japan. In some places there are different kinds and they are almost a national treasure.

When I was in Japan in 1953, the country was much different and people were more in tune with such things.
